1. „Interkulturelles Lernen im DaF- Unterricht“- ”Intercultural teaching during classes of GFL”,

Project description:
Nadia Zuzok, a lecturer at the University of Vienna, has been conducting classes devoted to intercultural training and its methodological aspects since 2010. During block seminars, her students put recent intercultural theories into practice and create intercultural activities, which they later test during classes of German as a foreign language.
The seminars are very fruitful and the project participants plan to publish a script with the activities that were created during the project. This will enable other teachers to familiarize themselves with activities facilitating intercultural training.


2. Object omission in child Polish and Ukrainian
Project description:
The aim of the project is to conduct a comparative study of the ontogenesis of the Polish and Ukrainian languages. In particular, the project concentrates on object omission in children acquiring Polish or Ukrainian as their first language. The project is conducted by researchers from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland) and the University of Tromso (Norway). The project results have already been presented during international conferences, e.g. Annual Meeting of the Linguistics Association of Great Britain (LAGB) in SOAS, London (Great Britain), August 2013; Generative Approaches to Language Acquisition (GALA) Oldenburg (Germany), December 2013; Colloque international - L’acquisition des expressions référentielles: perspectives croisées (AERef) Sorbonne, Paris (France), October 2013.

3. „Europa Moją Szkołą” – “Europe Meets School” (EMS)
Project description:
The project, which began in 2011, is a Polish version of the German project “Europa macht Schule”. Its main aim is to motivate young people to take an active part in international exchange programs. In particular, we invite foreign students in Poland, both from Europe and other parts of the world, to visit Polish schools. During such a visit, together with teachers and their pupils, the foreign students create a project concerning their home country. There is only one limitation to the project’s main theme; it should stem from the common interests of the participating pupils and teachers and be related to the Polish national curriculum. It is also recommended to approach the topic in a creative and individual way, e.g. by means of non-formal education, so that Polish pupils can help shape the meeting. In this way, the foreign students become mini-ambassadors of their own country abroad. Additionally, they become familiar with contexts not immediately related to their university studies. They learn more about Poland and actively contribute to intercultural dialogue. At the same time, EMS enriches the school curriculum with a new European perspective. The program also broadens pupils’ horizons, positively influences their worldview and encourages them to travel abroad.
So far three editions of the project have been staged, in which 19 students from different parts of the world took part: e.g. Germany, Austria, Egypt, Canada, Latvia, Spain, Portugal, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Indonesia, together with 12 schools from Poznań and other towns in Wielkopolska (Środa Wlkp, Opalenica and Zaniemyśl). Anna Błażejewska, Katarzyna Kończal and Joanna Wypusz are the project coordinators, supported by a group of active volunteers.

4. 2014: Erasmus Intensive „Tracing European Space / Europäischer Alltag: Sprachen, Kulturen und Identitäten erkennen”

Project description:
This is a multilateral project for students of language-related subjects, e.g. German studies, Applied linguistics or German as a foreign language studies. Its participants come from the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Slovenia and Sweden.
The aim of the project is to combine concepts related to space and its perception with intercultural teaching, and to present real examples of how these theories can be applied to teaching foreign languages. In particular, the project concentrates on selected aspects of how we perceive ourselves and others, searching for traces of “others” in public spaces, and putting these aspects into practice, i.e. during classes for learners of German as a foreign language.
The project is financed by LLP Erasmus. Our institute is represented by prof. Sylwia Adamczak-Krysztofowicz, prof. Camilla Badstübner-Kizik and dr Marta Janachowska-Budych.


5. The Warsaw Rising: Joint search for traces after 70 years

Project partners: Institute of Applied Linguistics Poznań (prof. Sylwia Adamczak-Krysztofowicz, dr Paweł Rybszleger), the Warsaw Rising Museum (Poland)
This is a Polish-German project with participation of students and lecturers form Phillips-Universität Marburg (Germany) and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland), in cooperation with the Warsaw Rising Museum (Poland). It will be held in spring 2014 in Warsaw. Its participants from Germany are students of education (different specializations), whereas the Polish participants are students of applied linguistics whose proficiency in German is at least B2.
The major aim of the project is to create on-line teaching/learning materials in Polish and German, e.g. podcasts, videocasts, education games, webquests, wikis, etc. The materials will refer to the Warsaw Rising and are planned to be made available online to a wide audience. The project is based on cooperative learning, creative and autonomous material development, and emphasizes affective factors in learning, especially empathy, which is possible thanks to approaching the problem from a multiperspective angle.
E-Tandem Course
Polish-German e-tandem course (AMU and TUD) involves language courses run in parallel by two partners in the winter semester of 2013/2014. The e-tandem course is meant for 1BA and 2BA students of applied linguistics majoring in German (AMU) and for students of various faculties learning Polish as L2 at A1-B1+ level (TUD). Weekly classes are Moodle and Adobe Connect  based. Final product – a virtual city tour in the form of a videocast.
Polish-German project based on the idea of Polish-German sites of memory and using them in foreign language as well as culture teaching. MEMODICS: Cultural encounters revisited- the didactic surplus of sites of memory in foreign language teaching
A long-term multifaceted project placing the concept of cultural memory and sites of memory at the centre, and regarding it from multifaceted perspectives of culture teaching, media, language teaching, and cultural anthropology. Its main aim is to develop a methodology to deal with culture-related concepts in different learning/teaching contexts. An important aspect of this methodology should involve media application and FL didactics.
