Research profile
The Department of Foreign Language Teaching conducts research in the fields of teaching German, English and Polish as a foreign language. Our key academic areas of research are:
- First and second language acquisition
- Bilingualism
- Teaching general German, English and Polish
- Teaching German, English and Polish for specific purposes
- Linguistic analysis of different kinds of texts ( e.g analyzing press, advertising, business language)
Members of the department offer lectures and seminars in:
• general didactics
• foreign language didactics
• intercultural teaching
• translation and its role in foreign language teaching
• German for specific purposes (e.g. business German)
• research methodology
• practical German
• authentic texts
• advertising texts
• B.A. seminars in FL didactics and linguistics
• M.A. seminars in FL didactics and linguistics
The Department cooperates on a regular basis with various scholars from German, Italian and French universities and institutions.
In 2012 we conducted an international project ‘FL didactics- in the past, nowadays and tomorrow’ which was awarded ‘The European Language Label’ for the most innovative institutional language learning project.
‘The European Language Label’ is an award encouraging new initiatives in the field of teaching and learning languages, the rewarding of new techniques in language teaching, and spreading the knowledge of languages' existence, thereby promoting good practice’.
